Well, it finally happened! After three and a half months I landed a good job. Yee-ay! As you know, I found a couple of families that were neither crazy or auctioning their children off to the lowest bidder and had good interactions with them both. Come Friday one of them offered me a position and after some strategic negotiations, I accepted it! It is quite a relief to have that decision made.
So now all I have to do is adjust to arriving to work at 6:30am. I'm not complaining though because Mondays off makes it all worth it. =)

A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down

So I hear that the average period of unemployment is six months. Add in the major layoff in Seattle, little experience in the business field and I should expect to be unemployed for about...six years. Ah, but fear not! For I have recently been introduced to one of the best kept secrets for employment in Seattle. And that is the nanny business!

As it turns out, just about every doctor in the greater Seattle area married another doctor and then decided to have children. So naturally their hours are a bit irregular and they require the services of someone like me. Someone who leads an adult life, but secretly loves making mud pies as much as the kids do.=) And so it seems that I may have found a good niche. At least for now.

I have interviewed with a few families and I won't lie, it has been...interesting. I was in contact with one family that didn't believe in discipline. Like, at all! And another that required a nanny (I would be the third to join the family) every waking hour of everyday. Oh, my. Now, I cannot judge another family on the way they are raising their children because that would be awfully hypocritical of me. But, let's just say I wasn't jumping at these particular employment opportunities. Fortunately, I have also interviewed with some fabulous families and (if all goes well) should have something nailed down by the end of the week! Three cheers for being employed! Maybe...soon...hopefully...

I wasn't expecting to get back into nannying. It has always been something that I enjoyed, but after I came back to Seattle I wanted to take a break from short people in general. (Not you, Nellie-kids.;) ) But as I spent time wading through the employment pool I realized that far more qualified people than myself were applying for the same jobs and my odds were not getting better. So after a nice little break (thanks to Nikki and Josh) it's back to the kid zone for me. Thanks to everyone that passed job openings my way and pray that I get connected with a good family. And if I end up with parents who ban there children from books or don't allow me to utter the word "no"; hopefully I can remember what one of my heroes and a fellow nanny said, "A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down."
